The Science behind the Health Creation Programme
The information and statistics contained in this programme come from mainstream scientific sources. All aspects of the programme are evidence based and presented by Author and Medical Director Dr Rosy Daniel, based on a lifetime study of holistic healthcare. If you wish to add new information to our body of knowledge, please send it to rosy.daniel@healthcreation.co.uk. We are most grateful for this support and are keen to hear your views about what is most important to achieve optimum health and wellbeing.
If you would like Integrative Medicine help, you can book an appointment with Dr Daniel via her clinic website www.drrosydaniel.org. There you will find information on how Rosy works and what she offers within her role to combine the best of all worlds, orthodox, complementary, nutritional and psycho-spiritual.
Background
When the holistic health care movement emerged in the mid-1960s
it was based largely on intuition and common sense. However in the years since, science has demonstrated the holistic view to be correct and vital for the health and wellbeing. We can now say that every aspect of the Health Creation Programme has a firm basis in well-researched science.
The first evidence came about through research into the key effects of nutrition, stress and exercise on our health. It has now been shown categorically that the way we eat in the West is the biggest cause of both cancer and heart disease, and that increased exercise and reduced stress can have a huge effect on cancer and cardiac risk. The science then took a big leap forward in the 1990s through the advent of mind-body science or ‘psycho-neuro-immunology’ (PNI), which began by demonstrating the effect of our state of mind on the functioning of the immune system, and has gone on to show that all of our tissue functioning is affected by the state of our mind and. spirit.
Backing this up have been studies in sociology and psychology, which show us the effect of both our environment and state of mind on our health.
Most impressive has been the work of cardiologist Dr Dean Ornish, who has demonstrated that the level of love, intimacy and sense of belonging we have in our lives is the biggest determinant in avoiding and surviving all the major degenerative disease of our time. For example, those who live in close-knit communities can have an eight times lower risk of heart disease.
There has even been science, gathered together in the books of Dr Larry Dossey, to show that patients who are prayed for in coronary care units (without knowing it) do much better than those who are not prayed for. Equally, those who received spiritual healing without realising it had faster wound healing than those who did not!
